Discover the fundamental principles of calligraphy in this workshop perfect for beginners.

It can be easy to miss the beautiful lettering carved into the ledgerstones on the floor of St Nicholas' Chapel. So we have decided to celebrate lettering and the visual art of writing with this special full day workshop.

Learn how to write the foundational script using a dip pen and ink. Explore how to construct individual letters through tutor demonstrations and individual practice.

You will recieve individual support from an experienced tutor to ensure you can work at your own pace. By the end of the day you will be able to create a bookmark, greetings card or short quotation using some colour to add interest to the text. Plus take home all the equipment you’ll need to put your new skills into action!

Lunch is included in the cost of the workshop.

Thanks to support from the Heritage Lottery Fund we are able to offer this full day's workshop, lunch and equipment for just £25 per person. Places are limited, so booking and payment in advance is essential.

The tutor is an experienced and supportive calligraphy tutor and has taught many beginners and left-handed people how to write in calligraphy. You will be able to keep the dip pen, ink, brush and paper, and have use of the colour materials. A calligraphy board will be available for use and can be bought at the end of the day for £6.50. Should you wish to buy more nibs, paper, ink or other equipment, there will be supplies available for sale.
