We celebrate the life and untimely death of England's first patron saint, St Edmund, with a medieval banquet on Saturday 20th November, the anniversary of his death in 869 at the hands of Viking Ivar the Boneless.

The story is a sad but tragic one as Edmund, who had been King of East Anglia for just 14 years was captured, tied to a tree and used as target practice before being decapitated. His head was separated from his body until supporters heard a wolf howling in nearby bushes who was found to be guarding the King's head. Once head and body were reunited, Edmund was buried in a nearby chapel and finally moved to Bury St Edmunds some years later when he was canonised. You can walk the 'wolf trail' and visit the wolf statue and the remains of the Abbey on Hunstanton's cliff top any day of the year.
